Viktor Korchnoi famously gave 4...a6 a question mark in his notes to a game, but times change, opinions change and the ...a6 system has been shown to be perfectly viable and well suited to playing for a win. To summarise, the ...a6 Slav offers Black solidity, dynamism and variety couched in an easy-to-understand setting. Perhaps this is why Grandmasters of the calibre of Kasparov, Shirov, Morozevich, Bologan and Dreev, amongst others have all used the opening with success and continue to do so!
